Try zoom extents again. Now go the layout viewport, make sure the viewport is not locked, hit zoom extents there and then adjust for the scale desired. Go to layout view, enter the viewport, use the zoom command, zoom to extents option.

I imported a map from arcview and set it as my xref. I also imported a block template. But, as my question states, my drawing is not showing up in the layout containing the template.

Not sure why they would dissapear but check the above. I guess the other thing maybe that they have dissapeared behind the command line for some reason (not sure why though).
