The Amherst Collective and Meat for Tea, the Pioneer Valley’s arts and literary journal, are joining forces for our first-ever short fiction contest. We’ve extended our submission period to Friday, June 21. So break out your best work and help us showcase your talent!

Meat for Tea recently won Best in Category ( literary journal) at the 62nd Annual New England Book Show.

We’re looking for short stories, excerpts of longer stories or novel excerpts of no longer than 5000 words (roughly 20 pages double spaced) on any subject matter.

The Grand Prize Winner will be published in the Amherst Collective and interviewed on camera at Amherst Media studio about their work to create a video calling card to be broadcast and for distribution on the Meat for Tea and Amherst Collective websites. They will also receive a year’s subscription to Meat for Tea, a year’s membership to Amherst Media (which includes video camera training and Final Cut Pro X training) and a /CD from Sonelab recording studio in Easthampton.

Submissions will be judged by editors from Meat for Tea and The Amherst Collective. And all entries will be considered for publication in The Collective.

The new deadline for entry is June 21st, 2019. To enter, submit a pdf with a cover page with name, contact information (email and phone number) and title of submission and a separate pdf manuscript with title and name on manuscript cover page to fiction@amherstmedia.org with the subject line MEAT FOR TEA/COLLECTIVE FICTION CONTEST. No more than one entry per person. There are no restrictions on subject matter. You can submit short stories or excerpts from longer short stories and novels.

We do not edit so please submit clean copy and polished pieces. Simultaneous submissions are welcome with the understanding that the author will notify us if the work is accepted elsewhere during the contest period.

So send in your submissions and spread the word!
